Satellite TV Aimed More Up-Market

According to Raymond Snoddy writing in today’s FT, Eutelsat, the European satellite organisation is planning to target the UK in a campaign designed to take satellite television more up-market.

Eutelsat hopes to use new English language channels on its Hot Bird satellite, due to be launched at the end of November, to reach UK viewers. NBC Super Channel will use the new satellite, as will the Dow Jones channel European Business News. Two new BBC channels to be launched early next year will also use Eutelsat; one will be a news channel, the other entertainment.

Eutelsat will have seven channels in English from early next year, including Euronews and Eurosport.
