Scene Becomes Electronic As Magazine Closes

Fashion title Scene is to close and reopen next year in electronic form. Published by Get Seen Magazines, its December edition will be its last print one.

In March 2000 the magazine will relaunch as “the world’s finest interactive fashion and lifestyle experience on the web” according to publisher and director of the group Tony Franks. All the main fashion shows will be covered and live audio interviews will be broadcast. The site will dispense with advertising but will have an advanced e-commerce facility so that all clothing can be purchased online. Franks explained: “If you click on a pair of lips on the site it will tell you the shade of lipstick and how to order it. The clothes and accessories will be able to be bought instantly.”

Scene never published any ABC figures but it is believed to have had a low circulation compared to established fashion titles such as Vogue and Elle, both of which already have websites.
