Score Digital Is Sole Bidder For Glasgow Digital Radio Licence

Score Digital – the digital radio group owned by Scottish Radio Holdings – has emerged as the sole bidder to the Radio Authority for the Glasgow local digital radio multiplex, advertised in February (see Newsline). The licence will deliver programme and data services to a potential audience of 1.8 million and the closing date for applications was yesterday.

Score plans to simulcast eight around-the-clock programme services, which will include Radio Clyde, Capital and Emap Radio. BBC Radio Scotland will also be carried on the multiplex, and the digital broadcaster proposes to commence its services in May 2000.

The Radio Authority hopes to announce its decision on the licence by autumn, and is inviting views from the public on the matter.

The RA recently awarded local digital radio licences to CE Digital for the Birmingham and Manchester areas (see Newsline), and is expected to announce its decision about the London local multiplex on 1 July (see Newsline).
