Scotland v England Euro Match Gets Live Sky Webcast
Tomorrow’s first leg of the crucial Euro 2000 play-offs between in England and Scotland (see Sky Relinquishes Exclusive Rights To England v Scotland Euro Clash) is to be broadcast live on the Sky Sports website at www.skysports.co.uk. The internet broadcast of the match, which kicks off at Hampden Park at 2:00pm, is being sponsored by Ford.
The webcast of tomorrow’s game represents the first time an international football match has been broadcast live over the internet. John Swingewood, BSkyB’s director of new media, says: “This pioneering webcast demonstrates Sky’s innovation in the field of new media. We will increasingly use the internet to add value to our broadcast programming.”
Sky Sports Online now receives between 20 and 30 million page impressions a month and has dedicated an unprecedented bandwidth to tomorrow’s webcast. Offline, the match is only available to Sky subscribers on Sky Sports 2 and, via Sky Digital, in interactive format on Sky Sports Extra. The second leg of the tie, which takes place one week later at Wembley, will be shown on both Sky and ITV.
