Scottish Media Group Loses Finance Director To Emap
Scottish Media Group has announced the resignation of its group finance director, Gary Hughes, who is to take up the same position at Emap at the end of September. George Watt, currently financial controller and treasurer, will temporarily replace him with immediate effect.
Hughes had been part of the group since 1996 and had followed its rapid growth, which included the purchase of Ginger Media last year (see Ginger Acquisition Strengthens SMG’s Presence). The company’s chief executive, Andrew Flanagan said: “SMG today is in very good shape and I would like to thank Gary, both personally and on behalf of the board, and I wish him well in this exciting career move.”
The news was followed by the appointment of Rhoda MacDonald, currently controller of factual programmes, to the newly created position of head of public affairs at SMG Television. She will be responsible for the communication of the strategy and direction of SMG’s Television Division, which includes the Scottish Television licence for Central Scotland, the Grampian licence for the north of Scotland, and Ginger Television.
