Sega Channel Set To Be A Hit

Forty per cent of 15-24 year olds are looking forward to the launch of the Sega Games cable television channel and 33% of 15-24 year olds would consider subscribing to it, according to CIA MediaLab’s latest Sensor survey.

Due to launch later this year, the Sega Channel will cost around £11 per month. Subscriber’s will have unlimited access to 25 Sega computer games which they will be able to play via their TV set. Overall, 20% of adults are looking forward to the launch of the channel and 13% of adults are likely to subscribe.

Although the idea of a Sega Channel is most popular among 15-24 year olds, it is also popular in households with children. Just over one third (35%) of families with children aged up to 15 are looking forward to the launch of the channel and 25% of such families claim that they would be likely to subscribe.

Among respondents who already have access to cable and satellite television, 29% say that they are likely to subscribe. However, among terrestrial viewers only 18% believe the Sega Channel is a good idea and only 9% would consider subscribing.

The survey also investigated the popularity of emergency service shows on television. Overall, 35% of respondents believe that there are too many programmes of this genre. Almost half (47%) believe that the current amount is about right, 14% would like to see more and 4% do not know or are indifferent.

Programmes about the emergency services are particularly popular with 15-24 year olds: 59% of this group are happy with the current number of such shows and 20% would like more. The group least in favour of emergency shows is the upmarket AB group – 43% of this group believe there are too many programmes of this type and just 8% would like to see more.
