Local commercial radio dropped slightly in terms of share of listening in the latest RAJAR report. For the three months to the end of September 2000 it fell 0.1% points to take a 38.7% share of listening. At the same time the sector’s weekly reach fell back 0.7% to reach 26.5m. Average hours increased by 2.7% to 15.3 hours.
The following tables show the best and worst performers, in terms of weekly reach and share of listening, of the local commercial stations broadcasting outside London. Capital Gold Kent was the best performer across the period in terms of weekly reach; its audience increased by 26% in the third quarter. Wireless Group’s Big 1458AM was the worst performer in reach terms, losing 42.5% of its weekly audience.
