September Cinema Admissions Fall
September’s cinema admissions show a 22.4% decrease year-on-year, averaging 1.85 million per week. This brings the third quarter average to 2.62 million per week, a 1% increase on last year. The monthly total for September was 7.925 million.
Top grossing film of the month was once again Independence Day, taking £7.7m, followed by a relatively strong performance from Phenomenon (£4.3m).
Overall, admissions from January-September totalled 96 million, a 14% increase on 1995 and a 4% increase on 1994. With the drop in September and a 15% decrease estimated for October, last year’s admission levels must be maintained if a year end total of 125 million is to be reached.
