Seven Is Biggest Film Of First Quarter

Figures released by the Cinema Advertising Association this week showed that there were more than 36.5 million cinema admissions in the first quarter of 1996, the highest figure since 1975. First Quarter Average Cinema Admissions Highest Since 1975.. Box office totals have now been released for the period.

The single biggest film of the quarter was “Seven”, which grossed almost £20 million. “Heat” took £9.6m during the period, and a number of other films released during the quarter are still attracting mass audiences; “Jumanji”, (£13m), “Sense and Sensibility” (£11.2m), “Trainspotting”, (£10.5m) and Disney’s “Toy Story”, which is still in the top three after six weeks on release, with a box office gross to date of over £19m.

The CAA are confident that the rest of 1996 will follow on the good start to the year, with this summer seeing the release of Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, and Steven Spielberg’s “Twister”. Jim Carrey stars in “Cable Guy”, and Tom Cruise stars in “Mission Impossible”.
