BSkyB remained the media sector’s big story yesterday as investors continued to assess the likely impact of the appointment of James Murdoch on the group (see Murdoch’s Son Lands Top Job At BSkyB).

Murdoch junior has already launched a high profile charm offensive aimed at disgruntled shareholders and has already held meetings with Merrill Lynch and Fidelity. However, the market remained unimpressed and the stock was seen down 1.13%.

Elsewhere, ITV partners Carlton and Granada remained in focus following reports that Sir Brian Pitman, senior non-executive director at Carlton TV, is expected to take over as interim chairman of the soon to be merged group.
