Sharewatch: BSkyB Falls On Leadership Concerns
BSkyB remained in the spotlight, down 2.27% week on week, following reports that James Murdoch is expected to be interviewed shortly for the post of chief executive at the satellite broadcaster. It is understood Murdoch is one of only two candidates being considered for the position. Investors have expressed concern that Murdoch is being lined-up for the role.
Elsewhere, Carlton has reportedly insisted that its merger with Granada is still on track in spite of the recent ousting of Michael Green as chairman designate of ITV plc. The move sparked rumours that Carlton board members were looking for a way out of the deal. The stock was seen down 4.96%.
Broader market sentiment was mixed and stocks failed to sustain early gains as profit takers moved in. US interest rates are expected to remain on hold tomorrow.
