News that United News & Media is talking to S4C Digital regarding taking a stake in the digital terrestrial TV broadcaster sent the media group’s shares up 7.5p on Tuesday to 680p. UNM was further strengthened on Wednesday when an ITC document suggested that ITV companies would probably pay less for their licenses in the future. UNM, which owns Anglia and HTV as well as 60% of Meridian, rose 16p to 696p.

The ITC’s announcement also affected the other major ITV players. Carlton Communications jumped 8.5p to 482.5p, Granada rose 4.5p to 767p and YTTV increased 12.5 to 1105p.

A drop in revenue at Reuters meant that the information provider fell 11p to 598.5p on Wednesday though it picked up during the rest of the week to finish on 634.5p, while Reed International rose 14p to 614.5p on rumours of corporate activity.
