Sky and Channel 4 will share live UK coverage of the Formula 1 season finale this Sunday.
This will mean F1 fans can watch the “once in a lifetime moment for sport” on the public broadcaster’s stream without a paying for a Sky Sports subscription.
Sky Sports reported “record viewing” throughout the season with the penultimate race in Saudi Arabia gaining a peak audience of 2.7 million.
Both broadcasters are expecting huge audiences as Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are currently tied in the lead ahead of the race at the Yas Marina track at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
Stephen van Rooyen, executive vice-president and CEO UK & Europe at Sky said: “Sunday’s Grand Prix is one of the biggest sporting events in the last decade, and could be an historic moment for British sport.
“We’ve chosen to gift the race to the whole country at Christmas through our partnership with Channel 4, so everyone can be part of a huge national moment as Lewis Hamilton goes for a historic eighth World Championship title.”
He added that the Sky Sports Formula 1 team will provide viewers on both Channel 4 and Sky Sports the insight, commentary and analysis of the final race of the season.
All Sky TV customers will have live coverage of the important qualifying session on Saturday, and the race on Sunday which will also show live on Sky Showcase.
