BSkyB has signed a new deal with Nokia that will see live coverage of Sky Sports and Sky News become available on selected mobile phones.
The new Sky application will be compatible with Nokia N97, N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic and 5530 and will also extend to the Nokia 5230 and X6 shortly, according to reports.
A version of the app with non-live mobile TV features will also be made available on ten other Nokia handsets.
The two companies claim that service will “revolutionise the viewing habits of Nokia phone owners [for] real-time sports, entertainment and news services while on the move”.
Sky and Nokia customers will be able to watch Barclays Premier League matches on their phone, as well as goal and match highlights and Sky News headlines.
The app has also been designed to link to the Sky+ box so users can record programmes remotely using their mobile.
Rupert Englander, Nokia’s head of services marketing UK, said: “We’re always looking for innovative ways to help make life easier for our consumers. Modern lifestyles have driven demand for great mobile content and services on the go and it’s great to know that this app will make a real difference to Nokia users.”
David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at Sky, added: “We’re delighted to be working with Nokia to give millions more people the chance to enjoy TV on the move. The success of Sky Mobile TV has shown there’s a real appetite for innovative services that allow customers to choose when and where they watch.”
