Sky Bags West Indies Cricket Deal
BSkyB has entered an exclusive long-term partnership with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to manage its worldwide broadcast and internet rights. The deal will see Sky become the board’s exclusive net partner with immediate effect and broadcast host from 2004.
Sky will revamp, develop and manage the official WICB internet service over an 8-year period and act as official WICB broadcaster for the five seasons from 2004 to 2008, producing the coverage for all international cricket in the West Indies.
Announcing the deal Vic Wakeling, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “This partnership proves our commitment to cricket, to new media and to our Sky Sports subscribers. We are thrilled to be working so closely with the West Indies…one of the best-known and most attractive teams in world sport.”
Sky gained a cluster of cricket rights for its sports channels last year (see Sky Sports Secures International Cricket Broadcasting Rights).
