Sky has added popular video-on-demand platform 4OD to its On Demand service, making it the most complete catch-up TV service in the UK.

The Catch Up TV section on the Sky EPG now includes content from Sky channels, BBC iPlayer, ITV on demand, 4OD, Demand 5, Nat Geo, History, and Crime & Investigation.

The new addition will include Channel 4, E4 and More 4, and will be available at no extra charge for Sky customers that have connected their Sky+HD box to their broadband. This figure currently stands at just over 2 million and is continuing to grow rapidly, according to figures from Sky.

A selection of older programmes and series broadcast by Channel 4 will also be available to watch in Sky’s Library section, including The Inbetweeners, Shameless, The IT Crowd and Father Ted.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Director of TV Products for Sky commented on the importance of offering the best combination of content and innovation for Sky customers as the way in which people are enjoying TV is changing – customers are embracing technology to take control of viewing.

“We know customers have busier lives than ever, which is why we’ve created the most comprehensive catch-up service in the UK.

“Over 2 million Sky customers have already connected their Sky+ box to the Internet so they can enjoy our full catch-up and On Demand service. But we are working hard to get even more Sky homes connected as we know our customers love the control and flexibility it gives them – it’s a perfect complement to Sky+.”

Sarah Rose, Channel 4’s Director of Commercial and Business Development, added: “The launch of our successful VOD service, 4oD, on the Sky on demand and Sky Go platforms this month will extend the reach of our content to enable even more viewers to enjoy our wide range of programmes.

“And through the recent arrival of More4 HD and much anticipated launch of Film4 HD in September, we’re delighted to complete the roll out of our HD portfolio.”

The news comes alongside Virgin Media’s announcement that it will be adding ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD to its line up of HD channels, taking it to a total of 43.
