Sky Bids For Talk Radio News

It has emerged that Sky News is to bid for the Talk Radio news contract, hoping to takeover from current providers, Independent Radio News (IRN).

IRN’s contract for the service runs out at the end of the year, and the new director at Talk, Kelvin MacKenzie (see Newsline) is fielding pitches from both IRN and Sky for the next news contract.

IRN already holds the majority of the 230 commercial radio news supply contracts in the UK, but Talk has a close relationship with Sky having recently secured a deal with Sky Sports (see Newsline). Additionally, Talk’s new owner, TalkCo, is backed by News International which, in turn, holds a 40% stake in BSkyB (see TalkCo Settles With CLT On Price For Talk Radio).
