Sky Channels Launch This Weekend
Subscribers to BSkyB’s multi-channel package will get more for their increased subscriptions this weekend with the launch of 4 extra stations. Tonight at ten VH-1 (Video Hits One) launches, a new 24-hour satellite music station billed as a “grown-up version of MTV”.
VH-1 will play a mix of contemporary and nostalgic music; 60% will come from the 1990s, with 40% coming from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Featured artists include Phil Collins, Sting, U2 and Crowded House. Brands such as JVC, IBM, Calvin Klein and Levis have already signed up as advertisers.
The Learning Channel, (TLC) launches tomorrow at 9am, running till 4pm, sharing a transponder with the Discovery channel. Sky Soap launches on Monday morning, broadcasting until noon, when Sky Travel takes over. These tw channels only broadcast on weekdays, with the same transponder being used at weekends by Sky Sports 2.
