Sky Digital Gets Radio Service

British Sky Broadcasting has announced a deal to carry radio broadcasts on Sky Digital. It will be the first digital television platform to carry radio services when it launches twenty stations on November 15.

The BBC will broadcast its five national services as well as the World Service. Virgin Radio, Talk Radio and Classic FM will also be carried and some local stations, including London-based Xfm, the BBC’s Asian Network, Radio Ulster, Radio Scotland and Radio Wales will gain a national audience for the first time.

GWR will provide three new digital channels; rock channel The Mix, Planet Rock and Core will be available to Sky Digital subscribers as well as on the national digital multiplex, run by Digital One, which is due to launch on the same day as Sky’s services (see GWR Unveils Multi-Million Pound Digital Radio Stations Launch).
