Sky Expands Digital Pay-Per-View Movie Service

Sky Digital is to expand its digital television pay-per-view film service. The digital broadcaster is increasing its number of pay-per-view screens from 48 to 72, allowing it to show a wider choice of films. Sky will also be restructuring its on-screen PPV listings.

A new, independent PPV film service will also be launching on Sky’s digital platform this summer. Provided by the Digital Broadcasting Company (DBC), the service will cover a further 12 screens (see Newsline).

Managing director of Sky Entertainment, Ian West, claims that early evidence suggests Sky’s PPV movie services are up to ten times more popular on digital than analogue, and commented: “The reason is simple. We are able to offer the widest array of viewing choice and the greatest convenience.”
