Sky has announced plans to remove its Sky Go service from all games consoles, unless users are prepared to pay £5 more a month.
Currently available on Xbox 360 and due out on PlayStation 3 and 4 later this year, from 29 July customers will need a Sky Go Extra subscription to access the app.
Sky Go Extra offers additional functionality and the ability to download and watch shows offline, as well as allowing users to watch the service on up to four devices.
A Sky spokesperson told Eurogamer: “Sky Go and Sky Go Extra mean our customers can watch their favourite Sky content on a broad range of devices wherever they are.
“We will be making some changes to the way in which console users access Sky Go, and we will be writing to any customers who this affects over the coming weeks to update them.”
One “very annoyed and disgruntled” customer took to the Sky forum to express his anger at the change.
“I have no intention of paying even MORE for a service I previously got as an optional extra within my existing Sky package.
“I think it is absolutely disgusting that as an Xbox owner I feel I am being penalised for having this app and using it.
“Behaviour like this, them changing how they do things, at the cost of the customer could easily lead me to cancelling my Sky account entirely in the future.”
