Sky News Favoured By Young Viewers
CIA Sensor has revealed in other research that Sky News, not BBC1 is the favourite provider of current affairs among 15-24 year olds.
When asked to name a television channel with the most informative and in depth current affairs coverage, over one third of all viewers (35%) say BBC1. This is followed by BBC2 (20%), Sky News (15%), ITV (12%), Channel 4(10%) and CNN (3%). Among 15 – 24 year olds, Sky News (34%) is the clear favourite, ahead of BBC1 (23%). BBC1 (24%) is top in the 25 – 34 year old group, with Sky News (21%) nudged into second place.
CIA Sensor also looked at the public’s opinion of the 9pm watershed. The survey found that 92% of people agree that it is a good thing that certain films and programmes are shown only after 9pm.
When asked whether 9pm was a suitable cut off point, 44% said that it should be later. More than half (55%) of over 45 year olds would prefer a later watershed, as opposed to just 26% of 15-24 year olds. 48% of people with children aged 10-15 would also like the watershed moved to a later time, compared with 29% of parents with children aged up to four years.
