Sky Renames Its Catch Up TV Service Sky Player

Sky Logo Sky has relaunched its PC on-demand download service, Sky Anytime, with a new name, Sky Player.

The updated version sees a number of enhancements to the service, including immediate playback of content and added live channels, such as Sky News and Sky Sports.

Further improvements include a redesign of the service’s look and feel, updating the site’s navigation and features allowing greater personalisation.

Sky subscribers have access to films, sporting events, television programmes and documentaries by using the download service, which was first launched in January 2006.

Griff Parry, director of on-demand at BskyB, said: “The changes we are making to the service will give customers an even richer online experience.”

He added: “Our leadership in the breadth and depth of content is being supported by improvements to the service’s functionality, such as live channels and instant play and watch.”

The revamp and renaming of the service is set to be part of a big promotional push across all Sky Networks.

The BBC recently revealed that more than 42 million programmes were accessed on its on-demand catch-up service, the iPlayer, in the first three months of 2008 (see iPlayer To Launch On Virgin Media).
