Sky Secures Spitfire For Test Cricket Sponsorship

Sky Sports has secured independent brewers, Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale, to sponsor the test match cricket series between England and South Africa.

The deal, brokered by Shepherd Neames, marks Spitfire’s first ever sponsorship deal with Sky Sports, which was chosen because of its strong male audience. The sponsorship will run across the test highlight shows, which run each night from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.

The campaign will see five specially created cricket-themed idents running at the opening and closing sequences of the programme and on either side of each of the six commercial breaks.

The idents feature stick men animation, developed by advertising agency RPM3, to carry on the brand’s punchy form of humour.

Commenting on the deal, Mark McJennett, sales and marketing director at Shepherd Neame, said: “The sponsorship delivers the Spitfire brand to our target audience and the clever cricket-themed executions achieve a perfect synergy between the brand and the sport.”

BSkyB recently launched an extensive TV and poster campaign to promote its coverage of the new Premiership football season (see BSkyB Hopes To Score With New Football Campaign).
