Sky To Offer First Division Football Matches On PPV

BSkyB has struck a deal with the Football League to provide two First Division football matches on a pay-per-view (PPV) basis. Oxford v Sunderland on 27 February and Grimsby v Wolves on 27 March have been selected to test-run the scheme which will see matches charged at £7.95 each.

Sky will receive half the money made from the screening of the games, with the remainder being split three ways between the two clubs and the Football League. The deal is subject to final agreement between all the clubs involved and the local police.

Sky has long held ambitions to introduce PPV coverage of Premiership games but was recently knocked back by the Football Association over the possibility of striking such a deal (see Sky Maintains PPV Ambitions).
