Sky To Unbundle Channels

Sky To Unbundle Channels

BSkyB is set to change the way it markets and sells its channels by “unbundling” the packages it currently provides. According to weekend press reports the broadcaster is going to offer the Disney Channel to viewers on its own instead of tied to the Movie Channel and Sky Movies as part of a Premium package.

Many in the industry, especially the cable companies, believe that bundling channels together often puts people off of subscribing because they are sometimes paying for channels which they do not want.

The move is believed to be aimed at pre-empting an ITC investigation, announced in December (subscribers see ITC Announces Investigation Into Premium Channel Bundling), into the practice of premium channel bundling in the pay-TV market.
