Sky Unveils Improved Text Service

Sky Digital is launching a new-look text service that will allow viewers to watch TV whilst browsing text services.

The revamped service will also allow faster navigation and links to games and email betting. Viewers will be able to switch between text and TV instantly.

Sky text’s sales controller, Kip Parker, commented: “The new and improved service allows advertisers to update ads instantaneously with their latest offers and information and has greatly increased the interactive opportunities we can offer them.”

Sky Digital’s text pages contain news, sport and holiday information.

In terms of subscriber volumes, Sky Digital is still the dominant digital pay-TV operator in the UK. In the first quarter of 2002 BSkyB added 171,000 satellite subscribers to its service, bringing the total number to 5.9 million (see BSkyB Shows Good Growth In Q1, No Plans For Radio Or TV).
