Smith Announces Review Of BBC And Changes To Lottery
The National Heritage Secretary Chris Smith has said that he will be carrying out a review of the BBC’s internal structure to ascertain whether the Corporation was functioning as efficiently as it could.
Speaking on Radio 4’s Mediumwave programme Mr Smith expressed concern that the reforms introduced by John Birt, the BBC’s director general, last year had actually caused a decrease in efficiency.
Mr Smith also stated that the Government had no intention of privatising Channel 4.
…Mr Smith has also said that Camelot would not be given the chance to renew its contract to organise the National Lottery. Speaking on LWT’s Crosstalk programme Mr Smith said that he wanted it be run by a non-profit organisation.
