Soldier Soldier Marches Up The Chart

Central television’s drama series Soldier Soldier has started its new series well by entering the top thirty programme list at number three. It attracted 15.38 million viewers and had a 62% share of viewing for the Tuesday night it was shown.
Other programmes performing well include Heartbeat and London’s Burning, both of which increase on their previous week’s viewing figures. Heartbeat had 15.25 million viewers and a 60% share of viewing, while London’s Burning attracted 14.74 million viewers and had a 48% share of viewing. BBC1’s new police drama Backup didn’t fair as well, only attracting 7.57 million viewers and being beaten by Carlton’s Class Act which started half an hour earlier and achieved 8.39 million viewers.
In spite of the launch of its autumn schedule ITV’s share of viewing has fallen, along with BBC1’s, when compared to the same week last year. With BBC2 and Channel 4’s shares relatively unchanged, the main gainer seems to be Other viewing whose share is up from 6.8% last year to 9.5% this year.
