Sounds Profitable, the trade association for the podcasting industry, is to merge with podcast events business Podcast Movement.

The strategic partnership will together offer research, events and thought leadership within the podcasting space.

Under the terms of the seven-figure deal, Podcast Movement will acquire Sounds Profitable, which will continue to operate as a trade association while also producing industry research and insights.

Sounds Profitable partners Bryan Barletta and Tom Webster will remain shareholders in the business. Barletta will also assume the role of president of Podcast Movement.

Through the merger, Podcast Movement will seek to expand its involvement in industry events such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and SXSW.

Barletta said: “As we take these next steps together, we’ll be able to amplify our mission to connect creators, brands and innovators, while providing an unmatched event experience in the podcast industry.”

Meanwhile, Podcast Movement co-founder Dan Franks will remain president of production unit Event Movement, which will support the growth of Sounds Profitable’s branded events alongside those from Podcast Movement.

Franks added: “Sounds Profitable’s forward-thinking vision, cutting-edge research and commitment to moving the industry forward create an incredible opportunity for Podcast Movement to grow and adapt alongside that evolution.”
