Southern Newspapers has announced results for the six months ending January 1. Pre-tax profits were up 138% from £3m to £7.15m. This figure includes a £3.5m profit from the sale of the group’s shareholding in Portsmouth and Sunderland Newspapers.

The Observer and Guardian are to enter the latest round of broadsheet promotions by launching a holiday offer. This Saturday is the start of the World in a Weekend promotion, where readers of both the Guardian and the Observer will be able to collect tokens for up to 20% off city breaks through travel agent Regent Travel.
