Regional newspaper group Southnews has launched a £59 million bid for Home Counties Newspapers. Southnews, which publishes over 50 local papers, said it was yet to receive a response from its target.
The bid follows an attempted £52 million takeover of Home Counties by Johnston Press which ground to a halt in February following an investigation by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) (subscribers see HCN And Johnston To Submit Plans To MMC). The MMC’s decision is due to be submitted to the DTI this Friday.
Home Counties Newspapers’ directors were unavailable for comment when contacted by Newsline.
