Spooks came out on top in last night’s ratings battle, with the programme drawing in an average of just under five million adult viewers to BBC One between 9pm and 10pm.
ITV1’s new series Vincent, starring Ray Winstone, managed over 4.7 million, taking a 22.5% audience share between 9pm and 10.30pm, the same viewing share as the MI5 series.
Coronation Street once again performed well for ITV1 with the soap’s first instalment being seen by around 9.2 million adult viewers (47%) and the programme’s second instalment taking 8.9 million adult viewers on average (40%).
The aftermath of the death of gangster Johnny Allen in Eastenders, screened between the two episodes of Corrie, lured 8.3 million adults to BBC One, giving the channel a 39.6% audience share at the time.
Channel 4’s most popular programme of the evening came in the shape of Deal Or No Deal with three million adult viewers on average (35.4%), followed by Wife Swap at 9pm, which drew 2.6 million (12%).
