Sport First Creates New Distribution Partnerships

Sport First Creates New Distribution Partnerships

The UK’s only weekly sports-dedicated newspaper, Sport First, has created two new partnerships to aid its circulation and distribution.

In the first, Sport First has developed a tie-in with the Big Issue that will see Big Issue homeless street vendors selling the sports paper around the London ITV region. If this trial proves successful, the scheme will be rolled out nationally across the Big Issue‘s network of vendors, who will each receive a cut of Sport First‘s 60p cover price.

In a second scheme, the paper has formed a partnership with the Mail Newspapers Circulation Department to develop its circulation, distribution and supply. Mail Newspapers’ experience will also help to raise Sport First‘s profile amongst UK wholesalers and retailers.

The paper’s managing director, Neil Webster, says: “Sport First has experienced an increase in circulation over the past months and our recently launched Saturday paper is also doing really well. The deal with Mail Newspapers should dramatically increase our profile amongst wholesalers and retailers. I believe that it will further consolidate and develop our ambition to be a major sports media brand.”

According to the the latest circulation figures, for October 1999, Sport First sold 100,829 copies a week – its highest ever figure.
