Contrary to trade press reports, the long-awaited daily sports title Sport First will not be launching in January. Editor Bob Harris told Newsline that though the publication was editorially ‘sound’, financial and print arrangements were unsatisfactory and would need to be significantly improved before a launch date was announced. Mr Harris said that negotiations were being held with a variety of sources regarding financing but would not be drawn on details.
Mr Harris stressed that he wanted Sport First launched as soon as possible though he ruled out January because it was so close to Christmas.
