Sport First Plans Second Edition

Sport First, is planning to publish twice a week from autumn. The sports-dedicated national paper, which saw impressive gains in the latest ABC Circulation Audit, will add an extra Saturday edition to its current Sunday weekly.

The news come after a rocky history of attempts to launch itself as a twice-weekly publication. After introducing a Monday edition in May last year (see Sport First To Publish Monday Edition), in an attempt to push the paper to eventual status as a daily, it returned to once-a-week status only six weeks later (see Sport First Returns To One Day A Week).

The paper will be boosted by growing circulation figures reported in the ABCs for February-July 1999, released last week. In this audit, Sport First saw an increase in sales of almost 20%, with month on month circulation up by over 11,000 to a figure of 66,751.
