Sport Leads The Way For New ITV Schedule

ITV today announced a £170 million schedule for Spring and Summer which is dominated by World Cup and Formula One action. This will culminate on July 12 when live coverage of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone is followed by the final of the World Cup in Paris.

ITV also announced its presentation team for the World Cup coverage. So far it includes Brian Moore, Bob Wilson, Ruud Gullit, Kevin Keegan, John Barnes, Ron Atkinson, Alex Ferguson, Terry Venables and Bobby Robson.

Programmes supporting the tournament include Frank Skinner and David Baddiel’s Fantasy World Cup, a behind-the-scenes report on A Year In The Life Of The FA Cup, The Truth About Footballers (from the makers of the ‘Hollywood’ series) and another evening with Ian Wright in Friday Night’s All Wright.

ITV’s coverage of Formula One Grand Prix will consist of races from Argentina, San Marino, Spain, Monaco, Canada and France before arriving in Britain in July.

ITV’s new offerings include Imogen’s Face, a story of sisterly love, envy and guilt starring Samantha Janus and John Bowe; an adaptation of Rosamunde Pilcher’s Coming Home starring Joanna Lumley, Peter O’Toole and Penelope Keith; a First World War romance called The Unknown Soldier and Stephen Gallagher’s adaptation of his own novel Oktober.

In addition there will be new series of Touching Evil, with Robson Green, Where the Heart Is, with Sarah Lancashire and Pam Ferris, The Vanishing Man and Noah’s Ark.
