Spotify lifts time restrictions on desktop players

Spotify has announced that desktop users will now be able to listen to an unlimited amount of music for free.

Spotify Free users could previously listen to up to 10 hours of music per month via their PCs or laptops, which the company hoped would encourage users to sign up for the paid version at £9.99 per month.

In a blog post, the digital music service wrote: “We have removed these caps completely across all platforms – you can listen to your favourite songs as many times as you like, for as long as you want.”

Spotify Free users will still have to listen to adverts.

At the end of last year, Spotify – which currently has over 24 million active users, of which six million are paying – made its mobile and tablet app free, allowing users to listen to music on shuffle mode without charge as long as the device is connected to the internet.
