Success For Irish Independent Radio

Ireland’s independent radio stations have increased their lead over R.T.E. Radio 1 by three points, according to the latest J.N.L.R./M.R.B.I. Listenership Survey. The 1995 survey shows that the independents have a market share of 44% (up 1%) compared to R.T.E. Radio 1 at 38% (down 2%) and 2FM at 22% (up 1%).

The Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC) also said that 51% of the country’s population tune into one of their local stations each weekday. Stations which have shown considerable success include Shannonside/Northern Sound (having a 44% share), Midlands Radio 3 (30%) and East Coast Radio (24%): all have increased their share by 3%.
