Sugar Celebrates Birthday With Bumper Issue

Hachette Filipacchi’s glossy teen monthly, Sugar, is celebrating its 100th issue with a special bumper birthday edition.

A special issue of the magazine will appear on newsstands in February and will feature the results of the first ever 100 Most Inspirational Girls Survey, which saw readers nominate which celebrities and real life girls inspire them the most and why.

The magazine comes with a free Boy Model calendar and will include an exclusive interview with pop star, Justin Timberlake, as well as interviews with Pop Idol, Zoe Birkett and teen band, Busted. There will also be two pages of birthday greetings from a range of celebrities, including Blue, Westlife and the Sugababes.

Sugar has seen its circulation rise by 32% since it was first audited by the ABC at the beginning of 1995. However, the title has faced stiff competition from Natmags’ CosmoGIRL!, which entered the notoriously fickle teen market last year (see Cosmogirl Launches With £5m Campaign).

According to the latest ABC data for the six months to June 2002, Sugar has seen its circulation decline by 6% year on year to 346,449, down from 368,559 in the same period the previous year.
