The Sun has launched online video reports to accompany its web-based news coverage, with the brand extension already providing an increase in hits to the newspaper’s existing website.
A source close to the paper’s online operations confirmed that the inclusion of the video reports, which are updated four times a day, have resulted in a rise in the number of visitors to the Sun Online site.
“It’s picking up hits wise,” the insider said. “Although it’s too early for exact figures, it’s doing ok.”
The new service launched earlier this month, with the latest breaking stories now delivered both in print and TV-style video format.
The newspaper is also believed to be launching a weekly entertainment bulletin, with coverage of movie premieres and showbiz events.
The new development could see additional revenues generated for the newspaper, both through sponsorship and break bumpers positioned between bulletins, although these have yet to be implemented.
