The Sunday Telegraph has secured South African Airlines, the official brand of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, to sponsor a special supplement providing a detailed guide to the event.
The 2003 World Cup supplement will be published on 2 February, a week before the official opening of the Cricket World Cup, which runs from 8 February to 23 March in South Africa and Zimbabwe. It will contain 52 full-colour pages including biographies and statistics, as well as Nasser Hussain’s guide to the event.
The A4 supplement will contain three full pages of advertising and will be promoted by a £150,000 TV ad campaign created by Clemmow Hornby Inge, with media planning and buying by Mindshare.
The concept was devised by James Mann, a strategic planner in the Telegraph Group’s commercial development department, who negotiated the deal with South Africa Airline’s sports marketing agency, Sporting Frontiers.
Commenting on the deal, Mann said: “A supplement in The Sunday Telegraph provides an excellent editorial platform for South African Airlines to support its event sponsorship of the Cricket World Cup.”
Following a separate deal, visitors to the www.sport.telegraph.co.uk website will be able to view video clips of the best rugby union tires scored in each weekend’s Zurich Premiership matches. The links, sponsored by Zurich, have been created using footage from Sky TV and are designed to add values to rugby fans using the site.
Earlier this month The Daily Telegraph secured sponsorship deals for three of its Saturday tabloid supplements, specially created to coincide with the New Year holiday booking season (see Telegraph Gets A Flying Start With Travel Deals).
