News International has confirmed that the Sunday Times is launching its own website, separate from Timesonline.co.uk.
This follows comments from NI that it is pressing ahead with plans for paid content online (see “Too many agencies surviving on share deals to prop up business models”), although it is unknown whether this will feature on the Sunday Times website.
Today’s Media Guardian section includes job advertisements for the new site, with roles including flash designers, interactive editor, news journalist, journalists for culture and style, and communities editors.
According to the latest ABCe figures, Times Online is the fifth most popular national newspaper website.
Over the past 12 months it has increased its audience by 30% to 21.2 million in June (see ABCe June 2009: Mail Online races ahead of rivals).
