Superclassics – First Issue Review

Superclassics – First Issue Review

Yesterday IPC’s new glossy classic car magazine, Superclassics, launched. It is published quarterly, has 132 pages, and a cover price of £3.50

Editorially, it has a serious collector theme which is evident in articles and advertisements. Peter Tomalin, Editor, enthuses over the cars featured and this enthusiasm is reflected in road tests and reports.

The cars featured in this, the launch issue, include comparisons between a 1950, 1960, and 1970 Ferrari and the new Ferrari 456GT, the latest Aston Martin DB7 is tested around three old English race tracks, Goodwood Aintree and Brooklands, and Ian Young gives advice on buying a used Maserati Bora or a De Tomaso Pantera.

Regular articles cover test drives and opinions of ex racing drivers and other celebrities, and road tests of currently produced classics.

The theme of Superclassics revolves around expensive classic sportscars being driven as they were intended, not kept as museum pieces. The colour photography is large and has a quality feel and is undoubtedly aimed at the wealthy collector.

Advertisers include Breitling, Christian Dior, Volvo, Louis Vuitton and exclusive car dealers. The ad:ed ratio is 26:74.
