Support For C4 Funding Campaign
Jeremy Isaacs, founding chief executive of Channel 4 has launched a campaign to overturn its funding formula. Other backers of the campaign, which launched in a letter to the Times, include Lord Young, chairman of Cable and Wireless, who as trade and industry secretary in 1990 was responsible for the 1990 Broadcasting Act which set the formula; David Abbott chairman of AMV and Alastair Grant, chairman of food retailer Argyll. The letter says, “C4 now pays more to ITV than it can invest in drama and film combined. This cannot have been parliament’s intention.”
