Switch Digital Is Sole Bidder For Central Scotland Digital Licence
The Radio Authority has received one application for the local digital multiplex service licence for the Central Scotland area. Switch Digital, the consortium comprising the Wireless Group, Clear Channel, Capital Radio and the Carphone Warehouse, is the sole applicant for the licence, which will serve a population of up to 2.75 million listeners.
The licence is the first in a regional tier of digital radio licences to be advertised by the Authority and is designed to further broaden the range of digital programme services available to listeners in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, where local multiplexes have already been licensed.
Switch Digital is proposing to broadcast a total of nine programme services including classic soul from The Rhythm and chart and dance station Ministry of Sound. Recently the consortium teamed up with flegling station Beat 106 (see Switch Digital Prepares For Scottish Bid), which will also broadcast from the multiplex.
The Radio Authority has also invited applications for a digital multiplex licence to serve the West Midlands region, the closing date for which is 12 December.
