Premiership football club Newcastle United says it has received a takeover approach worth up to £157.6 million. The club, which has not named the possible bidder, said a “preliminary approach” had been made at no more than 110p a share.
However, no formal offer will be lodged until monopoly regulators have reported on BSkyB’s controversial bid for Manchester United. This is not expected until well into the New Year (see Murdoch Bitter Over MMC Referral).
