Talk Radio Buys The Radio Partnership

Talk Radio has today announced that it has acquired The Radio Partnership Limited (TRP). The takeover will mean that the new radio company will become the fifth biggest in the UK and will give Talk control of: 96.4FM The Wave, Swansea Sound and Valleys Radio in South Wales; The Wave 96.5 FM in Blackpool; Pulse and Classic Gold 1530/1278 in Yorkshire; Signal FM in South Manchester & Cheshire and Signal One and Signal Two in Staffordshire & Cheshire.

According to latest RAJAR figures TRP currently has 3.3 million listeners to its radio stations, which represents a share of commerical radio listening of 2.5%, giving it the eighth largest audience in the UK.

Kelvin MacKenzie, chairman and chief executive of Talk Radio said: “We have had an exciting eight months at Talk Radio, breaking new ground with our combination of sports and news broadcasting. This acquisition now demonstrates our commitment to local music radio.”

As a result of the acquisition, TalkCo Holdings will change its name to The Wireless Group

When contacted by MediaTel Simon Linn, chief executive officer at Katz Radio Sales, had ‘no comment at this time’ regarding the future handling of the stations airtime sales.
