Talk Radio Secures Exclusive Cricket Broadcast Rights

Talk Radio has secured the exclusive rights to England’s cricket tour of South Africa this winter. The sports deal marks the first time that ball by ball Test cricket coverage has been carried by a commercial radio station rather than the BBC.

Talk also had the rights to the one-day Coca-Cola Cricket Cup tournament which took place last week in Sharjah, Dubai, and saw England pitted against both India and Pakistan (see Newsline).

Moz Dee, Talk Radio’s head of sport, believes that Talk Radio can bring a new audience to the game: “Cricket is going through a revolution and Talk is at the cutting edge. Up until now, cricket has been seen as the sport of the old and pompous. Talk Radio’s cricket coverage will change all that. Our commentary will be lively, fun and totally unstuffy.”

Talk recently announced that Sky News is to provide it with UK-wide news coverage (see Newsline).
