TalkSPORT Secures Fiat For News Sponsorship

Wireless Group-owned sports radio station TalkSPORT has secured Fiat LVC as the sponsor of its twice daily sports news bulletins.

The sponsorship deal, which includes a range of break bumpers, is designed to help Fiat target a predominately male audience with a consistent broadcast presence at key times of the day.

Ben Nicholls, sponsorship and promotions manager for talkSPORT’s sales house Impact, commented: “Fiat LVC is a fantastic fit with the talkSPORT audience and we are pleased to generate programming that creates such brand associations.”

TalkSPORT’s sponsorship and promotions team claims that revenues are up 35% from the first quarter of this year, achieving the highest-ever revenues and brand-counts for any quarter in the station’s history.

Adam Roland, head of sponsorship and promotions at talkSPORT, said: “More brands than ever are coming on board, and many are trying radio for the first time. We are bucking the trend during what is the toughest period for years in media generally and for radio in particular.”

Capital Radio also claims to have had huge success in securing sponsorship and promotions deals. The radio group reports it has outperformed the rest of the radio market during the second half of 2002, with the value of its S&P activity increasing by 25% year on year (see Capital Secures Sponsorship Deals With O2 And Pizza Hut).

The latest figures from the Radio Advertising Bureau show that sponsorship and promotions continued to be one of the fastest growing sectors of radio advertising, with revenue improving 14.7% year on year during 2002 to total £71.2 million (see Commercial Radio Boosted By Sponsorship And Promotions).
